BRISTOL CENTRAL SWIMMING CLUB

AGM  NEWSLETTER

TO ALL MEMBERS AND PARENTS

Once again it will soon be time to hold our Annual General Meeting where the Club Officials report to the membership on the key events and results from the last 12 months, pass on some thoughts for next year and seek to fill the formal Committee and Section posts. We hope that this years meeting will take place in the Mandela Bar on the 3rd floor of the Students Union Building on Friday 27th November starting at 8.15pm – after the club session - and your Committee would like to extend an invitation to all members (although only those aged 14 and over may vote on any issue) and parents to join us. NOTE If the University Swimming Pool is still closed on that date a new venue will be advised via the Web Site www.bristolcentralsc.co.uk

The business of an AGM is often fairly straightforward and does not therefore take too long. On this occasion your Committee is seeking approval for the collection of the ASA Annual registration fee to be made wherever possible via the monthly standing order rather than it being a separate cash collection as now. This will save extensive manual recording and, occasional, confusion on this charge. Cash payments will continue for approved non standing order payment members.

Copies of last years minutes and this years Annual Reports from each section will be posted on the website in mid November and it would greatly assist the club if any required hard copies could be drawn from that source.  A limited number of hard copies will be made available nearer the time and at the meeting. I hope you will take the opportunity to update yourself on the information about the club.

The elections and the section reviews are important – a lot of hard work goes into preparing the Annual Reports and I know that the authors would welcome your support and would also be willing to discuss any of the content.   In addition attending the meeting can sometimes give you a better understanding of what goes into running a club like ours and might, hopefully, encourage some to also consider taking on a more active role in the future.   We would therefore appreciate your attendance but if that is not possible I do hope you will find some things of interest in the information that will be provided.

Nomination boards for the Club Officials can obviously not be currently displayed at the University Pool and members are therefore welcome to nominate (and seek a seconder, who must also be a current member) willing people for the various positions and forward details to myself or any other current Committee member.

The Agenda for the Annual General Meeting is as follows:

  1. Apologies for absence
  2. Minutes of the previous AGM held on 28 November 2008 (Copies will be available at the AGM and will be displayed beforehand on the university pool notice board, if possible, and web site)
  3. Matters arising from the minutes
  4. Life Member
  5. Hon General Secretary’s Annual Report
