BRISTOL CENTRAL EASE THROUGH BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP PRELIM ROUNDS!

Central's Senior Men's side played in the British Championship Prelim rounds on the weekend needing to win at least 2 out of 3 matches to claim a place in the Finals to be held at Manchester Aquatic Centre Next Weekend 25th /26th February.

CENTRAL V London Polytechnic - WON 13-3

Central shot out of the blocks in the first game of the weekend and by half time were 10-2 up over a shocked polytechnic team. although central took their foot of the gas considerably in the second half, the damage was already done and central ran out easy winners 13 - 3.

Scorers: Craig Figes 5, Matt Thresher 3, Paul Morris 2, Dan Williams 1, Jon Hutchins 1, John Sissions

CENTRAL V Cheltenham - WON 10 - 8

Our local rivals were always going to give central the toughest game of the weekend and so it proved. central scored first but then cheltenham raised their tempo and took 4 - 1 lead early in the first quarter. central held their nerve and slowly but surely clawed their way back into the game but were still 6- 4 down at half time. The third quarter was a tense affair but central made some tactical changes to reduct the deficit to 7- 6 down going into the final period.Central's experience then proved crucial as they scored two goals in the final two minutes of the game to win 10 - 8.

CENTRAL V Portobello, Scottish champions WON 12 - 8.

This was, as expected, a physical game from the start. Portobello's ageing but skilful team employed every trick in the book to slow down central's younger & fitter team. central again started slowly, and found themselves 3 goals down early in the first quarter. central's fitness began to tell in the 2 nd half & they came through strongly to win 12 - 8.

Central's COACH : - Rhys Tamlyn Said :

“ With injuries & availablity problems the remaining 10 players worked extremely hard to grind out wins V Cheltenham & Portobello. We'll change some things tactically and be looking to get a final berth v in form Lancaster. But we must take care to beat Rotherham in the semi final who look weaker than last season but still are a big threat."
