The club reported a surplus for the year of £73 against a budgeted surplus of £1000, mainly as a result of unforeseen training costs for our coaches and volunteers . Details of the unaudited accounts will be made available at the meeting.

The club’s funds are now £17,198, but there are three reserves maintained to ensure the club can meet its future debts.

£14,000 represents six months of the club’s commitments under pool hire contracts, £3,555 is the balance of the sum raised from previous Open Meets and is reserved for special events and £845 is the balance of grant funding from PESSCL (specifically for Club Link and school activities). Once these reserves are set aside the net deficit of free cash left at the end of the year is -£1,202.

Looking to 2008, the club has been informed of increased costs of pool hire and increased costs of providing training for our volunteer coaches to maintain the high standards necessary for our club. We have concentrated our efforts on reducing the hourly rate from the University and are hoping to receive some funding towards the training costs. This still leaves a gap to fill in our budget and as a result, we have decided to change monthly subscriptions to the following levels from 1st January 2008.

Fees increase the month following birthday.

We feel these rates better represent the average pool opportunities for swimming in the age groups shown.

We understand that these increases are large, especially for 13 year olds, who also go up an age band on top of the annual increase. We have, therefore, decided to phase the increase over two years for swimmers who are or will be thirteen - £4 extra this year and then in line with 14 year olds from January 09. When you consider how many hours of coaching per month the members have, then cost per swim is very reasonable and compares favourably with other clubs in Bristol. We have decided to decrease fees for our younger swimmers who do not get as much pool time.

It would be appreciated if all standing orders were changed before Christmas so that they are correct from 1 January 2008.

It is more important than ever that we as a club organise fundraising activities to help with ever increasing costs. Ideally, a group with members from each section would meet to discuss ideas and organise events. Any volunteers? Please let me or Diana Weare or any committee member know if you could help.

Finally, thank you to all members who update their SOs promptly, and those who collect monies and generally make my (very enjoyable) job easier.
